Legendary Variety gossip columnist Army Archerd was the opening guest on AMC’s Shootout today. In his interview, he astutely pointed out that the source of much of the gossip we read in the news today comes from reporters reporting on other reporters, with too few reporters actually digging up scoops themselves in the field. Rightly so. Archerd also created the People’s Choice Awards. But don’t tell Nikki Finke that he said the reason the Los Angeles Times doesn’t have a gossip column is because “they don’t know who to hire.”
