Fake blogs have started to pop up. Termed Splogs, these bogus blogs are created by getting a high search engine “page rank” to direct readers to ads, or to drive customers to obscure e-commerce sites.
Just like the spam that annoyingly clutters up your e-mail inbox, splogs look like regular blogs and even collect information from the internet using RSS feeds. But often, the content posted on a splog has been reprinted without the original owner’s notice.
The only real purpose of these splogs is to “game influential search engines”, and get ad clicks, which poses a serious problem to advertisers who thought their ads were going up on a credible blog.
Just say no to splogs.
